LOS ANGELES – World tourism has been severely impacted by with Africa being one of the most severe casualties. Tourism to Africa has always been sensitive political and health circumstances. It is imperative that action is taken now and that when travel opens up, Africa has a positive image. To support these efforts, a group of prominent Africa travel specialists, in cooperation with the African Tourism Association have launched, TourSafe-Africa,a resource guide for consumers desiring to travel to Africa. It is an indispensable reference to trusted accommodations and tour operators that have pledged to take steps to ensure proper protection practices and protocols for safe travels.
The break in tourism is not only a hardship for tour operators and properties owners but the entire hospitality industry from room stewards to cooks, porters and guides. Tourism in Africa is a major part of the economic backbone of the continent. One in ten people in Africa are employed in tourism and it is not uncommon for one salary to benefit ten or more people. All is being done by the governments and private sector to be sure that tourism to Africa comes back stronger than ever, communities flourish and travelers are provided a magical experience.
The TourSafe-Africa Consumer Website (www.toursafeafrica.org) is an easy site that lists destinations and properties that have been nominated by TourSafe-Africa Executive Committee and International Council made up of Africa tourism industry leaders. The TourSafe Africa shield has been designed to instantly symbolize and provide trust and confidence.
Protocols that have been created by World Travel & Tourism, as well as United Nations World Tourism Organizations, have developed standardized procedures for governments and properties to follow and this is supported by TourSafe-Africa.
The initial prestigious TourSafe-Africa partners include Great Plains Conservation (Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe), Desert & Delta (Botswana), Elewana(Kenya and Tanzania), African Bush Camps (Botswana, Zimbabwe), Ultimate Safari Camps (Namibia), Sibyinyo Silverback Lodge, (Rwanda), Anabezi and Time & Tide Camps (Zambia) and EASV Luxury Camps, and Governor’s Camp both in Kenya.
